St Rita Cross Country Does Well at CYO

Thirty athletes from St Rita ventured to South Gate on Veteran’s Day for the CYO Cross Country Championships. The meet included more than 500 athletes from over thirty schools. The team which does not conduct formal practices did remarkably well. Lucas Pichardo was our lone C boy to attend, finishing 10th overall out of over 80 runners. The C Girls team of Catherine Mispagel (who finished third), Maggie Hungate, Katherine Fisher, Audrey Fisher, Abby Blea and Abby Hardy took the Third Place team trophy.

On the B level, both the boys and the girls had fifth place finishes. The boys team was led by Colin Gala (who finished eighth) and Micheal Martinez (eleventh) with Zachary Zambrano, Robby Nardoni, Damien De Mesa and Mark Challita also running well. Competing for the B Girls were: Cassie Pichardo, Olivia Fisher, Molly Hungate, Caitlin Cruz, Charli Hardy, Faith Blea and Kelly McKiernan.

Both Varsity teams picked up trophies as the boys took third and the girls were second. Luc Aguilar-Fraley was the fourth place finisher for the boys, with Brandon Clarizio and Chris Gala also scoring in the third place effort. Esteban Sanchez and Max Ochniak also competed for the Raiders. Jenna Mijares won the Varsity Girls race by a huge margin and Hillary Howard (tenth) and Emerson Gohrick (twelfth) also scored for St Rita. The team which also included Erin Simone and Devon Nardoni were barely edged out by St Philip for first.

Raider Spirit Wear Available

Athletes, Students, Parents and Friends,

We are selling St Rita Spirit Wear to show pride in our school and support for our teams. These shirts can be worn on special days at school, to practice, to our games and can be worn in lieu of the PE shirt on the West Campus. They can also just be worn around town. On display, outside the office, are three styles of the “St Rita Raiders” shirt as well as the football and volleyball shirts being worn by our athletes. St Rita hats and visors are also being sold. You can purchase items in the office this week only. After that the order form that can be downloaded below must be used to make a purchase (you may use it now as well). We will send home the item(s) that day if available. We have a good stock available, but if we need to order it, it will take about a week. Be sure to make all checks payable to “St Rita Athletics”.

2014 St Rita Cross Country

2014 St Rita Cross Country

CYO is sponsoring two cross country meets again this year. We will participate in them as a team if there is enough interest. Just like track, there are boys and girls competitions as three different levels. 3rd and 4th graders compete in the C division and run 0.5 miles. 5th and 6th graders compete as B’s and run 1 mile, while 7th and 8th graders are in the A division and run 1.5 miles.

This year Mr. Hagen has agreed to run with the 5th – 8th graders on Fridays if there is enough interest. 5th and 6th graders must be able to keep up with the group if they are going to attend Friday practices. Athletes may not skip football or volleyball on Fridays to run without their coach’s permission. Most running needs to be done on your own and at PE.

Athletes may run in one or both CYO events. There are individual awards, but to compete for team awards, we must have 3 runners in a category. I have attached information on both competitions. The registration deadline listed on each is the CYO deadline. I need the information several days ahead of that in order to process the entries. The cost per meet is $10 and checks should be made out to St Rita Athletics. We will write one check to CYO.

Note: the CYO Championship meet on Tuesday November 11 is Veteran’s day and is a day off school.

There is an additional meet on Saturday 9/20 at Hahamongna Park on the Pasadena/La Canada border. That meet is sponsored by St Philip and PCC. They accept walk up registration. I have attached a flyer for that meet as well, but I will not be able to attend due to our participation in a football tournament at St Paul. Reminder for the Girl’s Varsity, that they have a volleyball tournament that day.
