Thirty athletes from St Rita ventured to South Gate on Veteran’s Day for the CYO Cross Country Championships. The meet included more than 500 athletes from over thirty schools. The team which does not conduct formal practices did remarkably well. Lucas Pichardo was our lone C boy to attend, finishing 10th overall out of over 80 runners. The C Girls team of Catherine Mispagel (who finished third), Maggie Hungate, Katherine Fisher, Audrey Fisher, Abby Blea and Abby Hardy took the Third Place team trophy.
On the B level, both the boys and the girls had fifth place finishes. The boys team was led by Colin Gala (who finished eighth) and Micheal Martinez (eleventh) with Zachary Zambrano, Robby Nardoni, Damien De Mesa and Mark Challita also running well. Competing for the B Girls were: Cassie Pichardo, Olivia Fisher, Molly Hungate, Caitlin Cruz, Charli Hardy, Faith Blea and Kelly McKiernan.
Both Varsity teams picked up trophies as the boys took third and the girls were second. Luc Aguilar-Fraley was the fourth place finisher for the boys, with Brandon Clarizio and Chris Gala also scoring in the third place effort. Esteban Sanchez and Max Ochniak also competed for the Raiders. Jenna Mijares won the Varsity Girls race by a huge margin and Hillary Howard (tenth) and Emerson Gohrick (twelfth) also scored for St Rita. The team which also included Erin Simone and Devon Nardoni were barely edged out by St Philip for first.
