One of the best seasons in school history ended as our girls suffered their first defeat of the year in the elite eight of the CYO playoffs. The game started with an extremely talented Our Lady of Fatima team (Artesia) jumping out to a 15-0 lead. Shots just would not fall in the beginning, but then the Raiders went on a 9-0 run. For the remainder of the game, the teams traded short runs, but in the end, even the incredible energy and conditioning of our team could not overcome the four outside shooters of Fatima.
Congratulations to a fine group of girls. Eighth graders Jenna Mijares, Amber Allen, Devon Nardoni, Katie Tupy and Sophie Johnson played their hearts out this year and will be sorely missed. Seventh graders Hillary Howard, Emerson Gohrick, Collette Allen, Erin Simone, Nicole Noriega, Erin Stutenroth and McKenna Lindheimer have a lot to live up to next year, but if their play this year is an indication, they will be up to the challenge.
Coach Cyndy Amerio did an outstanding job with this group of girls and deserves a big “Thank You”. She also got some great help from former St Rita athlete, Erin McFaul. Thanks also must go to the parents and fans who supported this team through the season and the playoffs.
